Nearly 50 years ago Lee Iacocca approved giving race car driver Carroll Shelby the funds for some new generation Ford V-8 engines. Shelby was presented with The Lee Iacocca Award by local radio personality Leon Kaplan. Shelby addressed the audience by stating, “I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for Lee Iacocca.” Shelby installed the engines in a British AC chassis to later create the Shelby Cobra car, and as they say, the rest is history. For the second year, Roger Igon of Edge Systems Corporation sponsored the award.

Dallas & Reid's Ride
Eagles Aerie # 3207
Plainfield, Indiana
Event Results: $65,000 and counting
It was a little chilly on the morning of September 15th…. BUTTTTTT it didn’t keep approximately 700 motorcyclists & volunteers and about 500 motorcycles from showing up to take part in the third annual Dallas & Reid’s Ride!!!!! The ride was held at the Plainfield Eagles Aerie No. 3207, who in addition to being a wonderful host and sponsor, gave a $10,000 grant to the Dallas & Reid's Ride! The police escorted ride was led by Dallas Hall, a 16-year-old Type 1 diabetic, and his father, Marty "Scrounge" Hall, who is a member of the Ride planning committee, on their motorcycles.
After the ride, people enjoyed lunch, a full afternoon and evening of live rockin' music (Dallas' band even got to play), silent and live auctions, field events (aka motorcycle games), and vendors galore! Four fantastic prizes were awarded to the top four who brought in the most pledge money at registration, a Dixie Chopper lawnmower, a HotSpring Hot Tub, a Honda 50 minibike and a $1,500 voucher for a custom bike paint job. Steve Reeves from the local tv show Steel Horse came and featured the ride on the show again this year. (You can go to www.DallasAndReidsRide.Org and find the link to watch the Ride's coverage online.)
Our thanks to everyone for making this year’s ride another wonderful memory for us to cherish. We are forever in debt to those generous businesses, individuals, musicians, restaurants, etc. who donated ALL of the products, services, prizes, food, time and talent that went into making Dallas & Reid's Ride 2007 such a tremendous success. In addition to the ride itself there were satellite events held throughout the year to work toward the same cause - raising money for this critical research. There were many people who worked on those events tirelessly... the car wash that raised $1,000 in 4 hours on a cloudy day, and the Scavenger Hunt Ride that brought in a little over that, plus the Yankee Candle Sales in the spring and fall. This Ride is not just a one day event... it's a year long adventure!!
